born Jorell Nacapuy is a producer, business man, songwriter & sought after musician from the North Shore of Oahu. Influenced & groomed early on by a musical family Jay.Keyz's wide range of feel & style can be felt through his playing. His cousin is a founding member of "THE KRUSH",
his uncle Mike Nacapuy is a well respected musician who has performed with some of Hawaii's legendary artists, & his family's deep involvement with church, has kept his musical pallet bursting with inspiration. At a very young age he was listening to composers such as Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Claude Debussy & on the other side what his parents loved listening to Tower Of Power, The Winans, John P. Kee, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Joe Sample the list of exposure to young Jay.Keyz was endless.
Starting classical piano training from the age of 4 it wasn't long before it was apparent that a unique talent was being forged. By the tender age of 13, Jay.Keyz was already playing in the nightclubs of Waikiki. In 2005 Jay.Keyz became a member of Hot Rain one of the hottest bands to come out of Hawai'i! While playing keys along side Chris Reezy, Hot Rain has backed international reggae artists such as Jr. Reid, Peetah Morgan "Morgan Heritage",
Eek-A-Mouse, & Tanya Stephens.
In the studio Jay.Keyz is usually the "go to guy" & a favorite with other producers, for his ability to covet their ideas to tape on the first take & his ability to switch between piano, synth & organ with relative ease. He has worked with F1J1, Maxi Priest, Konishiki, J Boog, Siaosi, Kiwini, Laga Savea, Mike Love, Sammy Johnson, Common Kings, the late Malani Bilyeu of "KALAPANA", the list can go on & on.
As a keyboardist he has played "LIVE" with Carmen Grillo & Francis "ROCCO" Prestia from "TOWER OF POWER", Cold Blood, F1J1, J Boog, Common Kings, Melveen Leed, Yvette Nii from "HIROSHIMA", Gabe Baltazar, Kapena & much more. In 2008 he was a the keyboardist for Andy Bumatai's late night TV show for years until the show was discontinued . . . during that time he had the honor of playing piano for Neil Sedaka.
When asked to comment on his music, Jay.Keyz responded: "The journey & what you make of it, what you take from it, how you choose to express it defines what kind of artist you are. There was a point I felt I was guessing & loosely portraying what I thought was me. But we evolve & we mature, we find our purpose in this industry. I always felt the best backing up my fam F1J1, Siaosi, Kiwini, Laga Savea & J Boog. I never saw myself as a front man, though I love recording my ideas & releasing it to the world. My first album was only made to give back to my family. To show them my appreciation of what they have built musically in me. I never imagined it going on the radio. I couldn't foresee it having a following in Japan, New Zealand & Australia. I was only doing it for my family. I feel my music is shy, not meant to have this sort of attention. Then I realized that's me, not my music. So I continue to create & refine my craft hoping to touch anyone with my song, my feeling, my emotion."
